Window Toppers - Our history

How we arrived here is an interesting story.
Our story is tale of determination, innovation, and values.

In 1979, we began by manufacturing curtains on a sub-contracting basis out of the basement of a home in Swansea, MA. Business boomed… and after a short period, we moved out of the basement in search of a larger manufacturing space. Business thrived and more and more employees were added to the payroll.

Throughout the expansion years, focus was kept on family values for employees. Employees were allowed a “mother’s hours” working schedule and a mandatory 2 week vacation period during the summer for employees to spend time off with their families. Most employees were working mothers who would get their children off to school in the morning, go to work, and then be able to be home in the afternoon for when their children returned home from school.

By 1986, we were now employing over 100 employees in manufacturing, and producing products for a number of different labels.

Then… In January of 1987 , we lost everything when our facility at the historical Kerr Mill site in Fall River – Massachusetts was burned to the ground in what the city of Fall River calls the “the Great Kerr Mill Fire”.



We couldn not be stopped, and out of the many big named businesses that were effected in the fire… we had secured manufacturing floor space and equipment and were the first business to have employees back to work ONLY 2 WEEKS AFTER THE FIRE !



Back to work… our resiliant story traveled through the industry and we now manufactured products for most of the large home furnishing labels. Our clientel list was the who’s who of the home furnishings industry. Most of the large department stores and retail chains all peddled a product that was manufactured for other labels by us.

With the passing of NAFTA and other subsequent trade agreements in the early to mid 1990’s, we could see that the great era of manufacturing in the USA was coming to an end. Businesses were being enticed to move north of the border, south of the border, or overseas. “We just could not do that”.

We decided that we could dictate our own future, and not follow the flock of manufacturers leaving the country for a fatter bottom line. We had the expertise, the experience, and the determination.

This new vision would be called Window Toppers Inc., and by the summer of 2000 we had designed and launched our product line and web site. As expected, our products were met with great enthusiasm and success due to their high quality and affordable pricing. This new vision required down sizing and another relocation. In 2004 we moved to our present location on Griffin Street (near Globe 4 corners) in the city of Fall River.

We are lucky enough to employ the most wonderful group of craftsman, who are all experts with many years of experience at creating our high quality and eye catching window treatments and home furnishings designs.

We have posted just a handfull of some of the thousands of great Customer Comments & Thank You Letters we recieve from our wonderful customers every week. Living our vision... we still offer mother’s hours and work schedules around the family needs of our employees, we still close down for mandatory 2 week family vacations in July, and we still make a beautiful and competitive product right here in the good ol’ USA!

We sell retail directly to the public and we also supply other retail stores, web sites, and Mom & Pops type stores around the country. Interior design firms & decorators work hand in hand with our factory to coordinate large projects.
